About MES's Garware College of Commerce (Autonomous)

MES Garware College of Commerce was established in 1967 as an independent commerce college on the campus of the then ‘M.E.S. Arts and Science College’ which started in 1945. Initially Commerce classes were started in Arts College. The College was renamed as “M.E.S. Garware College of Commerce” in 1971. It was the second largest and independent commerce college imparting higher education in Commerce in Pune. The College got the momentum very soon and now is a leading single faculty Commerce College under Savitribai Phule Pune University. After getting very good grade continuously in the Accreditation process by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), MES Garware College of Commerce has shown phenomenal growth on the front of number of programmes offered, research activities, presence of international students on the campus, industrial and institutional tie-ups and collaborations.

Various optional and special subjects in Commerce and Administration curricula are taught in the College, including Vocational Course in Taxation. The College has a team of enthusiastic faculty members.

Several alumni of the College occupy high positions in various fields like business and industry, banking, chartered and cost accounting, self-employment, education, social service, music, drama, sports and many more. The College has adequate infrastructure that includes excellent buildings & library, well equipped computer laboratories, reading halls, hostel, gymnasium, gymkhana, audio-visual equipments and teaching aids. The College organizes variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for the benefit of students.

At present, the College provides the four undergraduate (UG) programmes, namely, Bachelor in Commerce (B. Com.), Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor in Business Administration in International Business (BBA-IB) and Bachelor in Business Administration in Computer Applications (BBA-CA). The Post Graduate (PG) programme, Masters in Commerce (M.Com.) and Doctoral Studies Ph. D. (Under Faculty of Commerce & Management) facilities are offered on the Campus.

The College has a rich tradition of meritorious students in academics and social fields. In the re-accreditation process, the College bagged the prestigious ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), scoring the appreciable grade points 3.45 on 4 point scale. The College is also the recipient of the Best College Award of ‘Savitribai Phule Pune University’ (SPPU), formerly called ‘University of Pune’ (India).

In the era of globalization of education, it is necessary to give global exposure to students, considering the need of an hour, the college had taken initiative to provide overseas educational opportunities to the students in collaboration with Douglas College, Vancouver, Canada; James Cook University (JCU), Singapore; University of Hull, UK; Northumbria University, UK; Curtin University, Dubai.

Moreover, normally we observe the presence of more than 60 international students from more than 10 countries on the College Campus.

In order to provide business oriented and industry–relevant education in the field of Commerce and Management, the College wished to introduce more learner centric teaching-learning process, inculcating the ability to the students to develop skill-sets and necessary attitude for gainful employment and entrepreneurship. For this purpose, the College has sought the status of Academic Autonomy from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the period of 10 years, starting from the Academic Year 2021-2022.
